Sacerdotisa - The 1992 Edit

Selina has recently discovered a newfound hobby in Witchcraft but when her Abuelita finds out, it leads to trouble at home. “Sacerdotisa - The 1992 Edit,” directed by Christian Santiago, is a throwback drama of the occult delivered with VHS visuals and a synth score unfolding with a creeping tension. Of late, Selina has been meeting up with her friend, Miranda, after school in the woods for some witchy rituals. When her Abuelita discovers a knife and candles in her book bag, she freaks out and forbids Selina from engaging in supernatural practices. But Selina is tempted to keep going, and does so, leading to the revelation of a dark family secret. For its lo-fi visuals, Santiago’s film is surprisingly lucid and well-plotted (it goes further than you might expect), and is carried by a wonderfully natural lead performance by Sabyne Santiago.
