Spice Islands
08-Jan-2020
Two actors workshop a scene in which an argument over spices turns into a larger fight about the state of their relationship. Nic Murphy directs “Spice Islands,” a meta portrayal about a man and woman locked in heated scene study, loosely guided by an offscreen director. It’s easy to lose yourself in the fabrication, in large part due to the eminently real and passionate performances from Lindsey Garrett and Brad Culver. And the relatability of the struggle, which spans from differing life expectations to money problems, identity and purpose. Halfway through, the roles are switched, and the longer it goes on, the more it breaks down on itself, a flow of repeating dialogue and role filling. -KA. Director: Nic Murphy.
