The Great Outdoors
Short Films, 22-Jan-2021
A film poem about a love of the outdoors that reflects on feeling like an outsider at a national park. (“I never really felt like it was a place for people like us”). Filmed at the Lake District in the UK, “The Great Outdoors,” directed by Tayler Prince-Fraser, delivers stylish visuals and lively editing in following three young black men enjoying the open air. While on the trails, they speak of being “met with looks of confusion and apprehension” from other hikers passing them by. The mission is to carve out their rightful space, normalizing their presence in the natural environs. We don’t normally feature branded content (which this technically is), but we felt this piece had a message and style of its own, not to mention that Last Pick is a small, independent, black-owned company focused more on lifestyle and artistic pursuits than selling products. (“We produce products when we feel they can serve a purpose, whilst trying to create as little a negative impact on the environment as possible.”). Check out the brand here. -KA.
