Unscripted

When an artist couple sits down to write a script, it devolves into a bitter argument. Sophia Sabella and Pablo Feldman direct and star in “Unscripted,” a rolling farce about the creative process and fragile egos. They set the mood - classical music and tea - and open up their laptop to begin a new script. Starting to spitball, they figure their story should be about a family. But they don’t get much farther than that before a battle opens up concerning who among the two of them should play the lead role. As it unspools, we learn a lot about their relationship in quick, successive reveals. And their escalating battle culminates with the endangerment of her beloved paintings and his dream journal. A smart, well-shot/edited comedy, the film works in various modes — from its light-hearted ribbing of movie tropes, to its sharp-edged deployment of personal insults, and on to the ensuing physical scuffle.
