We Are Always Hiding
Short Films, 18-Mar-2025
A young man and his girlfriend seek a resolution amid a life filled with confusion and ennui. With an unorthodox portrayal of its two leads, Marcus Soltzberg’s “We Are Always Hiding” delicately looks at a romantic relationship as it occurs in time and space. Trevor and Skye try to get back into their apartment. The door is jammed tight and Trevor has to give it a few shoulder checks for it to budge. When it finally swings open, we don’t see either of the two. Remaining unseen, we hear the partners’ dialogue as they walk through the apartment and go for a stroll around the neighborhood. Despite them being invisible, their interactions with their environments are clearly apparent and alive. While the physics of the world aren’t entirely explained, our curiosity settles upon a poignant reveal. The unexpected visual approach puts places and physical space into perspective with a tone that’s playful and endearing. -JM. Director: Marcus Soltzberg.
