After a New York City biker gets injured, he turns to desperate measures to afford paying the hospital bill. “Health Not Wealth,” directed by Bucky Illingworth, explores the depressing aftermath of a medical emergency — after a visit to the hospital, Emmet receives a $15,000 bill in the mail. With one foot broken, he hobbles on crutches through the city trying to piece together bits of the needed funds. He’s forced to sell some personal belongings, some of which are more personal than others; and, after coming across a flyer on the subway, he decides to meet with a stranger claiming to help “good people in bad situations.” With a cold visual look, the film hones in on the raw feelings of isolation and anxiety induced by an uphill battle. -JM.
